Our Mission Statement:
The Historical Society of Federal Way serves the public through researching, preserving, educating and displaying the history of Greater Federal Way to build a sense of community identity and heritage.

Our Motto:
Preserve The Past, Educate The Community, Inspire Future Generations

Our History:
The Historical Society was formed in anticipation of the Washington state centennial . At that time, the founders foresaw a time of heightened awareness of history of the state and our locality. We have involved ourselves in many activities surrounding that auspicious milestone — dedication of the flagpole and marker at Century Plaza (now Celebration (Ross) Plaza), dedication of other markers at Five Mile Lake and the Palisades Park, and an extensive photo display at SeaTac Mall (now known as The Commons).

In the years since then, the Historical Society has developed an extensive archive of historical information, accumulated thousands of images of life in Federal Way over the past 100 years and made dozens of public presentations on a wide variety of historical subjects. In the future, we will make more presentations, and further improve our archives and collections. The Barker Cabin and the Denny Cabin have been lovingly restored and open to the general public on the second Saturday of each month between May and October. The Historical Society will seek additional opportunities to advance the community’s appreciation of our heritage.

The Society invites your participation. There are many opportunities for individuals to volunteer. We have need for people with skills in writing, graphic arts, development and fundraising, photography and membership development as well as filing historical information. Our headquarters at the Heritage Center can use many kinds of skilled and unskilled workers. Please call us for more information.
